October at Updater: What We’re Up To This Month

This month we hit the perfect balance of both productivity and fun. With half a dozen conventions/conferences under our belt this month and a visit from our new teammates from MoveHQ, it was nothing less than another extraordinarily productive month. Here are just a few of the highlights.

LifeLabs

Here at Updater, we care deeply about employee development. That’s why we’re committed to supporting our employees with monthly LifeLabs learning sessions. This month, our team learned how to give productive and actionable feedback. One of our favorite takeaways was learning how to ask the correct questions and focus on the specific behavior (as opposed to the person). We also honed our abilities to provide examples to support recommendations, making feedback significantly more impactful than just telling a coworker what you felt was wrong with a project. We’re excited about our next LifeLabs session and to put our new skills to work!

Onesie Day

Yes, we’re talking those snuggly one-piece articles of clothing that children – we mean adults – wear. It’s kind of a thing at Updater. So one day a year, if you’ve got one, you flaunt it! Whether a unicorn, cookie monster, or a classic Updater Onesie, they are all welcome! It’s kind of one of those things you have to see to believe. Proof of insanity below…

REI Conference 2017

This month we were sponsors at the Realty Executives International 2017 West Coast Conference in Scottsdale, AZ. While enjoying the Arizona sun, we touched base with current Updater partners and spread the gospel on how Updater can be leveraged as the ultimate real estate marketing tool. Our VP of Real Estate, Chris Avery, also gave a presentation to brokerages in attendance.

Apartment All Stars

We’re regulars at the Apartment All Stars Tour and this month was no exception. Wade McGown, our Regional Vice President of Property Management, attended Apartment All Stars — in Inland Empire, CA. — with around 115 property managers in attendance. Updater was featured in a session run by speaker Jackie Ramstedt, who presented on creative ideas to help retain residents. Other speakers included Toni Blake and Mindy Williams.

2017 Arpin Agent Convention

Mid-month, Brian Ferguson and Joe Bippen, co-presidents of MoveHQ, attended the Arpin Agent Convention on Amelia Island in Florida. The theme this year, “It Starts with Us Together,” focused on teamwork. This was the first year Brian and Joe attended as representatives of MoveHQ and Updater. We are so honored to have them on our team and are excited to welcome all Arpin agents into the Updater family.

MRI International Users Convention

By participating in the 2017 MRI Conference, Updater continues to support our strategic software partner, MRI Software. This month, our Regional Vice President of Property Management, Greg Toomey, and our VP of Property Management Sales, Jon Wyant, attended the conference in Orlando, FL. It provided Updater the opportunity to meet with current clients and catch up on their success. The choice of location, weather, and local attractions promoted a great turnout. The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Universal CityWalk was a great time for all!

NMHC OPTECH Conference & Exposition

Our team always has an amazing time and makes incredible connections at the National Multifamily Housing Council (NMHC) OPTECH Conference & Exposition. This year did not disappoint. We pulled out all the stops for this convention with representatives from our rockstar property management sales and success teams attending and even our senior marketing manager! With the conference’s thought-provoking content and the opportunity to network with the best in the multifamily biz, we hit the ground running.

2017 NJWMA Conference

We attended the 2017 New Jersey Warehouseman and Movers Association Conference earlier this month in Atlantic City. We saw moving companies from all over the Garden State come together to grow their businesses through education, partnerships, and networking. Our Director of Marketing, Jenna Weinerman, had the opportunity to present at the conference on emerging marketing strategies in the moving industry. A huge thank you to the NJWMA for inviting us! You can check out a recap of Jenna’s presentation on our blog.

Visit from MoveHQ

As you’re probably aware, last month, Updater announced our acquisition of two leading moving software companies, IGC Software (IGC) and Asset Controls Inc. (ACI). These two companies will now officially operate as MoveHQ, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Updater.

This month we hosted the management team of MoveHQ at Updater headquarters in New York City. For those who had yet to meet the MoveHQ staff, it was a great opportunity to get to know our new teammates. During the visit, the entire staff at Updater was also given a sneak peek into what 2018 would hold for the MoveHQ and Updater integration — slotted to roll out before the end of Q1 2018.

It was the first time that the entire Updater team and many employees from MoveHQ were able to come together, exchange ideas, and get to know one another. Our family has grown significantly in the last few months, and we enjoyed getting to know our new co-workers both personally and professionally. Cheers to our growing family!

Updater’s Halloween Party

Three Little Pigs, The Wizard of Oz, the cast of Bob’s Burgers, and one Little Red Riding Hood — just to name a few of the amazing characters from our Updater Halloween Costume Contest. Like all holidays at Updater, we don’t know how to quietly celebrate. It’s just not our style! Who took home the grand prize and major bragging rights for the rest of the year? The cast of Bob’s Burger! Our costumes were so epic that Entrepreneur even took notice. Check out photos from our spookishly-amazing party below.

A massive shout out to Ashley, our People Experience Manager, for once again outdoing herself on planning and making sure we all live it up!

Movers and Shakers

This month, Ankit, Brian, Ariana, Lindsey, Jon, and Ryan all had Updater anniversaries. Thanks for all your hard work. We also welcomed a few new employees — Thomas, David, and Hannah, we’re excited to have you aboard!

Here’s to an amazing November and some long-anticipated autumn weather. Until we meet again, follow us on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and on the Gram.
