Turning Miles Into Meals: Updater Takes the 2018 Tunnel to Towers Run

This past month, 17 of our Updateers rallied together to participate in the 2018 Tunnel to Towers 5k in NYC. The Tunnel to Towers 5k is hosted by The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation – an organization that benefits first responders as well as catastrophically injured service members and their families.

The foundation is inspired by the heroic acts of FDNY firefighter, Stephen Siller, who on September 11th, 2001, strapped 60 lbs. of gear onto his back and ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel (now known as the Hugh L. Carey Tunnel) to the site of the Twin Towers where he gave up his life saving others. Stephen’s family started the foundation in his honor to give back to those who sacrifice so much. Today, thousands of people come out to follow in Stephen’s footsteps through the tunnel – and our team was so proud to participate for the 3rd year in a row!

In addition to commemorating Stephen Siller and the heroes we lost that day, the Updater team partnered with Move For Hunger (MFH) – an incredible non-profit that works with moving companies across North America to pick up unopened, unwanted food from those who are moving, and deliver it to local food banks. MFH is very close to our hearts, so we love turning our miles into meals by fundraising for them, too. We’re proud to announce that we surpassed our fundraising goal with a grand total of $6,228 raised. We’re already looking forward to running next year and crushing yet another goal.

As someone who participated in the run, I can attest to what a wonderful day it was – the energy in the air was indescribable! I’m so proud to be a part of a team that takes the initiative to do good for others. Way to go, everyone!
