Meet Updater: Jenna Weinerman, VP, Marketing

jenna_weinerman_updater_marketing

Everyone, say “hello” to our VP of Marketing, Jenna Weinerman! Jenna charts her journey with Updater (as she says, she met Updater and the “rest is history!”), what she does to unwind, and who she admires most in business.

So, you’ve been in the relocation industry for a while now – what’s your best piece of moving advice?

Measure twice, move once. If you’re moving a large couch, for example, measure it twice, measure the room twice, measure the door opening twice, etc. Measuring it twice ensures that you’ll only have to move it once!

Do you have a moving horror story?

Shockingly, no!

Really? How many times have you moved?

I’ve moved 12 times, all within Philadelphia, South & North Jersey, Washington D.C. and New York City. I’m a Northerner for life.

What about carrying a difficult piece of furniture on the subway?

When I first moved to Manhattan, I bought 3 barstools from Craigslist. I had to invite two other friends to each carry a stool on the subway with me. At least we had seats when the real seats were taken…

You’re about to move. What would you make sure to never do again?

I will absolutely, 100%, never ever move without a professional moving company again. Moving all of my worldly possessions is not my strong suit – it’s theirs. I’d rather leave the heavy lifting (literally!) to the experts.

What’s your favorite part about working at Updater?

Over time, I’ve had the privilege of watching Updater become an amazing collaboration of the brightest, most ambitious people that I know. I feel so fortunate to be able to spend the majority of the hours in my day at the epicenter of great people, career goals and a passion for simplifying the moving process.

What’s your favorite Updater feature? Why?

Our current features are amazing, but it’s the possibilities that are most exciting to me. I can’t share what’s coming down the pipeline, but trust me – you’ll love it.

What do you see as the biggest challenge in the relocation industry?

There’s too much bad advice on the internet. I believe that many people in our industry look for quick fixes on the web, but you have to be careful about what you read.

How did you come to work at Updater?

I was actually an Updater partner in a previous life, met the team, completely fell for with the product and business model, and joined. As they say, the rest is history.

What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen someone do in NYC?

I found myself sitting on the subway, across from a man with his pet turtle on a leash. That’s really all I have to say about that.

If you wrote a personal memoir, what would its title be?

“I Was Told There’d Be Pizza”

Whom do you admire most as a business leader?

I follow many of Walt Disney’s methodologies because he was a true innovator. He was a dreamer, but a realist. He poked holes in his own ideas to make them better than they were before. He pushed us to use our imaginations. He delivered amazing experiences. He delivered memories. I love that.

What’s your favorite quote?

I have a quote that I love to hate: “Everything happens for a reason.”

Does everything happen for a reason? Horrible things happen to people every day for no good reason. I’ve learned to control how I respond to things, not necessarily look for reasoning and logic in them – sometimes, there simply isn’t any.

If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?

“My Girl” by The Temptations.

What do you do to unwind?

I absolutely love my trips to my family’s shore house in the Ventnor, NJ. Biking on the Boardwalk, beaching, playing with our dog, Duke, spending time with family, and eating – Primo Hoagies anyone?!

What are two random/personal tidbits about you?

1. I’ve never had a cup of coffee.
2. I’m a huge Philadelphia Eagles fan. Like huge.

What are four things that you can’t live without?

1. Good water pressure
2. The Shore (not the TV show, the actual Jersey Shore)
3. Mom’s lasagna
4. Laughter

What’s your favorite Saturday Night Live skit?

Two Wild & Crazy Guys with Steve Martin

Where did you grow up?
