People of all cultures and ethnicities call New York home, and the city’s culture draws Americans and immigrants alike to New York City boroughs and suburbs.

New York was also named as the country’s most diverse city in 2017 by WalletHub, securing its nickname as America’s melting pot. The process of melding food, culture, faith, and community has been in progress for centuries in New York. The City continues to draw movers in because of its unique global representation. With a population of upwards of 20 million, New York is as dense as it is diverse.

A big draw for many moving to the New York area is its extensive public transportation system — with 24/7 bus and train lines making owning a car more of a luxury than a necessity. In 2016 alone, the New York City Subway boasted a ridership of nearly 2 billion! In addition, the suburbs of New Jersey, Westchester, and Long Island have the most extensive rail systems in the United States — with over 150 million riders on the Metro-North, Long Island Rail Road, and NJ Transit Rail lines.
