It’s moving day — you’ve finally made it! Weeks of planning and stress have finally reached their end, and you deserve a little rest and relaxation for all your hard work. So change into your PJs, get the popcorn popping, and peruse this list of movies to celebrate the occasion. There’s something for everyone!

Moving (1988)

It really doesn’t get much worse than the moving struggles of Arlo Pear (Richard Pryor). Arlo, a transit engineer in New Jersey, loses his job and decides to relocate to Idaho. If only it could be that simple! Shady home sellers, con artist movers, and horrible neighbors make for a hilarious disaster that drives Arlo to extraordinary lengths to fix.

Perfect for: Stressed out movers.

You’ll feel a whole lot better knowing it could be much worse! Better yet, watch after the kids have gone to bed — this one is rated R.

Max Keeble’s Big Move (2001)

In certain situations, moving is a relief — just ask Max Keeble! When Max learns his family is moving to Chicago, he exacts revenge on the bullies he’ll never see again — or so he thinks. When his family decides to stay put, Max finds himself living with the consequences of his actions.

Perfect for: Little ones!

Between the childish humor and messages on bullying, both kids and their parents will enjoy this movie.

Beetlejuice (1988)

Moving into your new place may be stressful, but at least there (hopefully) aren’t ghosts trying to scare you away. In Beetlejuice, ghost couple Adam (Alec Baldwin) and Barbara (Geena Davis) enlist ghoulish con man Beetlejuice (Michael Keaton) to help scare away the family that recently moved in. But as the couple bonds with teenage Lydia (Winona Ryder), they undo the damage to coexist.

Perfect for: Adults, teenagers, and fans of Tim Burton. Plus, who doesn’t like Winona Ryder?

The Money Pit (1986)

In this comedy, love birds Anna (Shelley Long) and Walter (Tom Hanks) put their savings into a beautiful mansion — only to discover they’ve been scammed into a dilapidated “money pit.” Even as the house starts falling apart, the couple works through the tension toward a happy ending.

Perfect for: House flippers, couples, and home owners.

Anna and Walter’s renovation struggle will resonate with you on a personal level.

Toy Story (1995)

Ah, the classic Disney story of friendship! Woody is used to being Andy’s favorite toy, but he finds himself jealous of Andy’s latest addition: Buzz Lightyear. But when toy-destroyer Sid kidnaps Woody and Buzz at Pizza Planet, they have to work together to make it out alive — and get home before Andy’s moving day.

Perfect for: Kids and kids at heart.

After all, Toy Story’s message of friendship and cooperation knows no age limit.

Spirited Away (2001)

In this masterpiece by Hayao Miyazaki, a wrong turn on the drive to a new house results in a coming of age adventure. Trapped in an abandoned amusement park full of demons and spirits, Chihiro uses her kindness and quick wit to escape the spirit world and free her parents. In the end, she realizes moving somewhere new isn’t so scary after all!

Perfect for: Anyone nervous about moving to a new place.

Chihiro’s bravery and confidence will inspire you!

Moving day is stressful, but taking some “me” time to relax and watch a movie will make the transition to your new home a more enjoyable experience. Happy housewarming!
