Meet Updater: Whitney Meer, Business Intern

We caught up with one of our awesome Business Interns, Whitney. She dishes on life at Updater, what she thinks about moving, and just where she’d travel if she had a time machine.

How long have you been working at Updater?

I’m new! I’ve been here about a month.

What do you do here?

I work on the success team, so I make sure our Mutifamily and Real Estate clients have long, happy partnerships with Updater

Do you have a moving horror story?

Actually, most of my moves have been pretty smooth! I am, by nature, a planner, which I think eases the whole process. I did help my friend move out of a third floor walk-up and into a second floor walk-up. In August. It wasn’t the most fun I’ve ever had, but he did “pay” us with pizza and beer – totally worth it.

What’s your best piece of moving advice?

When you get to your new place, the first thing you should do is make your bed and put away your dishes. That way, on your first night in the new place, you can fall into a nice bed as soon as you want and make coffee and eat breakfast the next morning. You’ll feel really at home.

What’s your favorite Updater memory?

I went to an Updater bowling match on my first day here! Our rivals were the best in the league, so it’s safe to say that we were slaughtered.

What’s one thing about the real estate industry that you didn’t know before working at Updater?

I had no idea that the real estate industry organizes so many trade shows and networking events! The community that these events build is truly fantastic.

In your opinion, what’s Updater’s largest contribution to the real estate industry?

The real estate agents that we work with are super excited to bring that extra oomph to their clients. In an industry that can be really fast-paced, it’s a great show of care for agents to go that extra mile and win more new and repeat clients.

Describe your ideal moving experience.

A small fairy comes to my apartment while I’m sleeping and moves everything (including me!). I wake up in my new apartment.

What’s the best part about working on a small team?

How easy it is to learn. I’m still new, so I sit in on a lot of meetings and try to figure out what I can do to help accomplish our goals.

What motivates you to come to work everyday?

I think we’re solving a really huge nuisance in people’s lives in a really big way. David’s vision of the company is super compelling, and I’m excited to be part of the team that’s making it happen.

It’s the apocalypse. Where do you hide?

I would hightail it to Colorado (where my family lives) and hunker down there. On the flip side, I live really close to a huge cemetery, so if it’s a zombie apocalypse, I’m out of luck.

What’s your favorite quote?

It’s a passage from an Annie Dillard essay called “Living with Weasels.” It goes, “I think it would be well, and proper, and obedient, and pure, to grasp your one necessity and not let it go, to dangle from it limp wherever it takes you.”

You have a time machine, but you can only make one trip. Where do you go?

I’d travel 100ish years into the future to see just how the world is doing…

If you could travel to work everyday on a vehicle without wheels (think: hovercraft, broom), what would you choose?

Helicopter for sure!

Your hometown?

Boulder, Colorado.
