Meet Updater: Stephen Dove, VP of Product
Forbes recently wrote, “There’s a saying that a founder is an optimist, an engineer is a pessimist, and a product manager is a realist.” Meet our realist, Stephen Dove, VP of Product. Stephen devotes his day to making Updater’s vision come to life. This Tulane grad grew up in Maryland, started his career in the piano industry, and eventually landed here at Updater. Let’s get to know Stephen!
Do you have a moving horror story?
When I moved to Spain, customs held all our stuff in the port at Valencia but didn't tell anyone. Luckily, my coworker’s sister was a customs official, tipped us off, and got my stuff released.
What's your best piece of moving advice?
Do it often enough in life to experience many different ways of living.

The energy and the fantastic product ideas.
What's your favorite Updater feature? Why?
The overall organization of different movings tasks. It helps someone understand what needs to be done and to organize their effort. That reduces stress.
What do you see as the biggest industry problem?
No one has the full picture of what the consumer needs to make their move seamless and easy.
What's the best part about working on a small team?
Your work matters and you're connected to everything.
What motivates you to come to work every day?
To help make people's lives a little easier and to make Updater super successful.
It's the zombie apocalypse. Where do you hide?
The beach. I'm pretty sure Zombies don't like sand.
Which actor/actress would play you in a movie about your life?
Brad Pitt would be in the big budget version. Maybe Bill Hader for the indie.
Whom do you admire most as a business leader?
Steve Jobs was one of the best product guys of our era. Too bad he was often a jerk.

“Be the change you want to see in the world.”
If you could only listen to one song for the rest of your life, what would it be?
You can only eat one food for the rest of your life. What is it?
Rice and beans.
What do you do to unwind?
Play guitar or FIFA 17.
If you could travel to work every day on a vehicle without wheels, what would you choose?
A magic carpet.

I used to build pianos, but now I play guitar. I lived in Madrid, Spain from 2010 to 2012 while working for a Spanish company.
