Meet Updater: Michael Clarner, Business Developing
We sat down with our Executive Director of Business Development, Michael Clarner, who oversees and grows our moving and storage industry relationships. An expert in the relocation industry, Mike shares what it’s like to work on a small team, his worst moving horror story, and his best piece of moving advice.
Tell us about your role at Updater…
I’m responsible for sales and strategy for our moving and storage channel.
How long have you been working at Updater?
As of May 1st, I’ll have been at Updater for one year.
Do you have a moving horror story?
Not personally. Here’s the worst I know of: I had a moving client from another company forge a bill of lading with the customer’s name so they could add more services and hike up the pricing.
What’s your best piece of moving advice?
Do your due diligence and vet out a moving company who will provide a binding estimate (subject to a survey of your inventory to confirm the price).
What’s your favorite Updater memory?
Our company outing for Zombie Laser Tag was priceless!
What’s one thing about the relocation industry that you didn’t know before working at Updater?
I didn’t think that moving companies would care as much about value added services for their customers as much as they do… it’s a pleasant surprise!
In your opinion, what’s Updater’s largest contribution to the moving industry?
Updater can truly add hours back to a customer’s life as they prepare for the moving truck to pull up on moving day. That’s the big payoff.

What’s your favorite part about working at Updater?
Everyone works as cohesive unit for the common success of the company. It’s amazing.
How did you come to work at Updater?
I was introduced to Updater by a former colleague who found this fantastic company.
What’s the best part about working on a small team?
Everyone is hands-on and willing to do whatever is necessary, even if it isn’t in their job description.
What motivates you to come to work everyday?
We are building something unique in some very traditional verticals and watching the success happen literally on a daily basis.
It’s the apocalypse. Where do you hide?
Somewhere with my young daughter.
What’s your favorite quote?
