Meet Updater: Chris Saad, Director of Moving and Storage
Everyone, meet one of the newest additions to the Updater Family, Chris Saad, our Director of Moving and Storage! Chris shares his worst move ever, what he likes about working at Updater, and his best piece of moving advice.
What do you do at Updater?
I’m the Director of Moving & Storage here, where I direct the sales and strategy for – guess what – our moving and storage channel.
How long have you been working at Updater?
I’m new! I started this fall.
Do you have a moving horror story?
Who doesn’t? A few years back, I moved my family and three kids across town by myself. Literally, it was just me in a budget rental truck… Which is pretty ironic considering I’ve worked in the moving and storage industry for nearly 9 years.
Trust me, that was enough moving horror to last me a lifetime. I will definitely be paying for a ProMover from here on out.
What’s your best piece of moving advice?
Have everything (I mean everything) packed in boxes before you start loading the truck. I learned this the hard way.
What’s your favorite Updater memory?
Since I’m a remote employee, my first visit to Updater HQ in NYC was incredible. I’ve never met such a motivated and talented group of people working toward a single goal. Something really special and innovative is happening at Updater, and I’m so excited to be a part of it.
What do you do to unwind?
I love to go mountain biking. Nothing takes the stress away like being on two wheels. Living in Grand Junction, CO, I’m spoiled with some of the best trails in the U.S.
In your opinion, what’s Updater’s largest contribution to the moving industry?
Having worked in the moving industry for while now, I know that movers and their customers can, at times, have an adversarial relationship. Moving is typically one of the most stressful experiences you might ever go through, and Updater’s helping to move that relationship in a more positive direction.
What’s the largest item you’ve ever had to carry on the subway?
My cell phone – I’ve only been on it once!
Describe your ideal moving experience.
Paying a professional mover to pack, load, and deliver my stuff. Ahh, that sounds amazing (see above moving horror story for reference).
What’s your favorite fast food restaurant?
Does Chipotle count?
You’re about to move. What would you make sure to never do again?
I will never attempt to move by myself again. It was a horrible, horrible idea.
What’s your favorite part about working at Updater?
I love introducing Updater to clients that have never heard of us before. It’s always the same reaction – “I wish I used Updater last time I moved.”
What’s your favorite Updater feature? Why?
Updating accounts and subscriptions. Anyone who has ever moved knows that updating your magazines, newspapers, loyalty programs, etc. can take hours and hours. Updater literally gives you hours of your life back.
Whom do you admire most as a business leader?
Elon Musk
If you were a food, what kind would you be? Why?
Hummus. Simply put, it’s the best.
What are four things you can’t live without?
Faith. Love. Family. Friends. My bike. NFL. Hummus. But, not necessarily in that order.
Where did you grow up?
Grand Junction, Colorado.
