July at Updater: Milestones and Bonding All the Way
As we wrap up July at Updater, we can’t believe how fast the summer is flying by. It feels like just yesterday we were in Atlanta for the NAA conference and planning our summer retreat (more on that below). But as they say, time flies when you’re having fun. And, at Updater, we’re committed to playing just as hard as we work. So, without further ado, here’s what we’ve been up to this month.
We hit a huge milestone
Our office officially reached 50 employees this month! We’ve been growing at lightning speed over the last year, and even within the last month.
This month, we hired a content marketing guru, a recruiting coordinator, a success manager for our relocation team, and a platform engineer to help us build new integrations. Fun fact: our new recruiting coordinator, Madison, joined after two semesters as our marketing intern – go Madison!
Speaking of hiring, we’ve started our search for a few rock star marketing interns for the fall. If you (or someone you know) is creative, dedicated, and looking to join a dynamic team, learn more about our internships here.
And, speaking of interns, we celebrated WayUp’s National Intern Appreciation Day by taking our interns out for tacos and surprising them with confetti bombs and donuts for dessert. Slomo confetti bomb video below:
We had some serious bonding time
The real highlight of July was our summer retreat, where we were given the opportunity to spend time together not just as colleagues, but as friends. After a seriously productive few months, the weekend was a great way for all of us to relax and unwind together. In fact, our retreats are such a great opportunity to spend time together, that they were featured in BuiltInNYC this month — check out the article for pics of our retreat (Justworks and Compass were also featured).
Here are just a few of the many highlights:
- A few of our remote team members flew to NYC – it’s so incredible to be able to spend quality time with them in a non-working environment
- We obviously spent a lot of time relaxing by the pool
- Listened to a ton of Backstreet Boys
- Held an epic cornhole tournament
- Bonded while riding Metro-North up to our destination, Irvington, NY
- A handful of us went for a hike
- Played a few intense games of chess
- Practiced our poker faces and pool shark skills
- And, last but not least, partook in a little arm wrestling. The winner? Both Andrew and Donk (aka Bryan Vanhooydonk) came out on top!
The girls just wanted to have some fun
Girls just want to have fun, right? Every few months, the gals of Updater practice a little female empowerment by chillin’ outside the office. This month, they went on a tour of the Chelsea High Line — drinks followed, because it’s summer in NYC and well…Rosé.

We have a few next-level pranksters in the office. What shenanigans occurred this month?
Ryan’s desk was Hawaii-fied and Lauren was sent on a Nicolas Cage-themed scavenger hunt. Clearly, there’s no such thing as an uneventful day at Updater!
In all, we’ve been keeping the heat coming all summer long. As we head into August, be sure to expect nothing less.
