What will I need when I notify the DMV?

If you’re applying online:

  • Your date of birth
  • Your old address
  • Your new address
  • Your email
  • Your legal name

If you’re mailing your Oklahoma DMV change of address request, write a letter that includes the following:

  • Your legal name
  • Your date of birth
  • Your old address (include the county)
  • Your new address (include the county)
  • Your driver’s license number

  • One document showing secondary identification
  • Proof of your social security number
  • Proof of insurance

The Oklahoma Department of Public Safety doesn’t specify a time limit, but why wait?

Do I need to take a driving test?

If your out-of-state license is expired, you will need to pass a written, driving, and vision test. If it isn’t expired, you only have to pass a vision test.

Yes, you must title and register your vehicle in Oklahoma.

Where can I register my vehicle?

You’ll need to visit an Oklahoma Tax Division office or a tag agent office in person. Sorry to say, but services are not available online.

What will I need?

When do I need to register my vehicle?

You need to register your vehicle within 30 days of becoming an Oklahoma resident, so get on it!

Is there a fee?

We don’t fault you for asking. Expect to pay an $11 title fee, and a $91 registration fee for motor vehicles (or $94 for a motorcycle). Additional fees may apply; contact the Oklahoma Tax Commission at (800) 522-8165, ext. 1-3101 for more information.

Is an emission test required?

No.

Is proof of liability insurance required?

Yes, and you must get it before you title and register your vehicle.

No. When you receive a license from the state you’re moving to, Oklahoma will automatically cancel your driver’s license.
