You’re in luck! You can easily complete your North Carolina DMV change of address online through the state’s Change of Address System. You can also call the DMV assistance line, 919-615-6170. Your change of address can be completed in person at a North Carolina DMV license office.

What will I need when I notify the DMV?

  • Your driver’s license number
  • Your Social Security number, Taxpayer Identification Number or U.S. Visa Number
  • Your credit or debit card for the $10 fee

Act fast — you’ll need to visit the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicle office within 60 days of your move.

Do I need to take a driving test?

Nope. Save your real driving skills for the road. You will, however, have to pass a written and road test if your out-of-state license has been expired for more than two years.

You’ll need to visit the North Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles in person. Sorry to say, but services are not available online.

What will I need?

When do I need to register my vehicle?

Don’t sit on it — you’ll need to register your vehicle within 30 days of becoming a resident, or when gainful employment is accepted, whichever occurs first.
